This release corrects minor bugs and provides major enhancements to version 1.4.1.

It is important that you read these instructions and follow the steps below exactly!
1) CSI now ships only the “68000 version” of Trade Data Manager on the Program diskette, which will run on any Macintosh. If you have a Macintosh with a 68020, 68030, or 68040 processor, AND you have a hardware floating point coprocessor, please call CSI Marketing to obtain the “Fast” version of Trade Data Manager. The fast version of Trade Data Manager runs significantly faster than the 68000 version on Macintosh models equipped with these facilities. If you have a PowerMac (based on the IBM/Motorola PPC 601), you must use the 68000 version in emulation mode.
2) Drag the “Trade Data Manager™ 1.5” program from the “Program” diskette to the folder on your hard disk where you will keep or are currently keeping your copy of Trade Data Manager.
3) Drag any previous version of the “Trade Data Manager™” program to the Trash, then empty the Trash.
4) Double-click the Trade Data Manager program icon to start the program. Trade Data Manager will automatically prompt you with a “File Open” dialog for the location of your Roster, Commodity Fact, Account Status, and Account History files. If you are a previous user of Trade Data Manager, do NOT copy the Roster, Account Status, and Account History files from the Program diskette -- select your existing files instead, since they are still compatible!!
5) Define the various preferences under the “Service/Comm. Settings...” command under the Service menu, including your User ID, phone number, data channel, baud rate settings, etc. Note that you can optionally select the Apple “Communications Tools” option in this dialog, which allows you to use plug-in communications tools in the Extensions folder within the System folder, to access internal PowerBook modems, etc.
6) Define the various preferences under the “Chart Settings” dialog, the “Accounting Settings” dialog, the “Historical Data Order Settings” dialog, and the “Database Settings” dialog to correspond with your previous preferences and your default database save format. It is especially important that you set the Database Settings to be what you had selected earlier with any previous version.
7) Drag the compressed on-line User Manual, labelled “UserManual(CompactPro™)” to your hard disk to make a copy, then double-click the copy on the hard disk. This file is a “CompactPro” self-extracting archive that contains the entire, up-to-date User Manual, in Microsoft Word 5.0 format. Select the target folder where you want the extractor to place the User Manual, then click the “Extract” button. Extraction takes about 15 seconds to several minutes, depending on what model of Macintosh you have. You may print the manual on your own printer if you wish. You may find that the text is easier to read on-screen if you change the font used for the "Normal" style in the style sheet to either 9-point Geneva or 9-point Helvetica (some formatting will be off a bit if you do this).
8) Installation is now complete!!
Enhancements added to version 1.5:

• The CSI User Number field in the “Service / Communications Settings” dialog is now editable. You must obtain an Authorization Code from CSI to enter into the “Edit User Number” dialog in order to change the User Number. This facility is intended mainly to allow the promotional version of Trade Data Manager to be enabled for new users over the phone, so they won't have to wait for disks to be shipped through the mail.
• CSI's new “on-demand” history ordering process is now fully supported! This is a major upgrade to Trade Data Manager, permitting you to order and collect historical data in one phone call, without having to wait for a CSI operator to fill your order (as was the case in the past). History data can be ordered and collected in the same modem session as your daily update.
Several historical data order options have been added, including the ability to receive either total or individual contract volume and open interest for commodities, and the ability to receive stock data with prices either adjusted or not adjusted for stock splits. In addition, history data items can be (optionally) automatically added to your CSI portfolio file, and to the local Roster file.
To accompany the on-demand historical data ordering facility, a new Historical Data Order Settings dialog has been added to the “Service” menu, permitting the default options for the Historical data order dialog to be specified.
• Trade Data Manager can now run in the “background” when conducting daily update or historical data collection sessions. This permits you to run other Macintosh applications while Trade Data Manager is performing a very long data collection session, so you won't have to dedicate your Mac to data collection for long periods of time. Note that the “progress dialog” now has a title bar (implying a movable, non-modal dialog), so you can drag the progress dialog to any location you desire on your screen. Trade Data Manager will remember the location of the progress dialog and will display the dialog in the new location each time you run the program. While the non-modal progress dialog is displayed, you can access the Apple menu or switch to other applications.
Be careful not to run very compute intensive applications or functions while Trade Data Manager is running in the background. If you perform a long operation with an application that does not give up the CPU very often, such as running a spell checker on a long document within some word processors, Trade Data Manager may experience a “time-out” in handling the modem protocol. If a time-out occurs, the modem session will be terminated prematurely, and some files may not be collected as a result. Generally, as long as you let Trade Data Manager get a little CPU time (even a few milliseconds) every 10 seconds or so, no time-outs will occur. Experiment with some of your applications to see if they will cooperatively multi-task with Trade Data Manager - almost all major applications will behave acceptably.
While running in the background, Trade Data Manager requires very little CPU time, so you will not see any degradation in your Mac's performance while running other applications in the foreground, and you will not see any “jerky cursor” behavior that is typical with other applications that run in the background. Give it a try!!
• The maximum length of the phone number string in the Service / Communication Settings dialog has been extended from the previous maximum of 30 characters to a new maximum of 63 characters. Note that many modems have a limited command buffer, and may not be able to take advantage of strings longer than 34 to 36 characters. This extension allows some overseas users to enter long sequences required to navigate through various PBX equipment, or you can use this facility to place telephone credit card numbers in the dialing string.
• Trade Data Manager no longer re-reads the Roster and Commodity Fact files every time you edit either file, or perform automatic Roster updates during a daily update session. Trade Data Manager now reads the Roster file only when it really needs to, at program start-up, or after the Roster is edited, or when the currently selected Roster file is changed. Trade Data Manager now reads the Commodity Fact file only at program start-up, or after the Commodity Fact is edited, or when the currently selected Commodity Fact file is changed. This change eliminates the long delay associated with re-reading a large Commodity Fact file (such as the all-stock Commodity Fact file) that previously occurred whenever the Roster was edited or changed.
• Trade Data Manager no longer closes all open chart windows whenever you edit the Roster or Commodity Fact files, or when a daily update session is being performed. Trade Data Manager now updates all open chart windows whenever any data is changed that would affect the chart display, including changes to the Roster or Commodity fact file entries for a given chart window, or updates to the contract data itself. You can keep charts open on the screen during a daily update, for example, and see the charts update in real time to reflect new data that has been posted to the files, just after all the contracts are posted.
• The Account Status file position and order warning alerts (the ones that warn you when a position or order entry in the Account Status file specify a contract that cannot be found in the current Roster) are now issued only once per Trade Data Manager session if you click the “Proceed, ignore all similar errors” button. These alerts were previously too frequent and annoying when the Account Status file had orders for contracts that were being rolled-over, where the user knew what he was doing.

Hawley/1.4.1-002/ When editing prices in the Price Display / Edit dialog, prices greater than 2000.0 were not accepted for indices whose quote factor is 1. Some stock indices and other data require prices in excess of this limit. %%% Fixed - prices may now be typed into this dialog with a maximum limit of 99999.
CSI/1.4.1-003/ If the disk volume name contained a trailing blank character, the program could not correctly save the disk volume name for each entry in the Roster, therefore the Roster File editor dialog would subsequently display each contract file with an “<undefined>” directory location. %%% Fixed - the program will now post an error alert anytime a disk name with a trailing blank character is encountered, asking you to rename the disk. Note that many applications will have trouble if you have a disk name with a trailing blank.
CSI/1.4.1-004/ The scroll bars were not hidden in the front-most chart window when the application was sent to the background, per Apple HIG. %%% Fixed.
CSI/1.4.1-005/ When using the whole chart cross-hair cursor, ghost images of the cursor were sometimes left on the chart when shifting the program from foreground to background, while performing Zoom In or Zoom Out commands, or when moving another application's windows around on top of Trade Data Manager's windows when Trade Data Manager was running in the background. %%% Fixed.
CSI/1.4.1-006/ When a chart window was positioned so that part of the window was off-screen, then the window was either re-sized, by dragging the size box, or repositioned so that it became fully visible on-screen, a two pixel thick black line would be drawn along the top of the horizontal scroll bar. %%% Fixed - this is caused by a bug in the Apple System's toolbox, not Trade Data Manager, however a work-around resolves this problem.
